Email Accounts

Email has revolutionized the way we communicate with one another. So much so that success in today's economy depends on having a reliable and speedy, business-grade email service. At Cyberian Frontier we understand this immutable fact of modern-day life.

Our email services are hosted on servers dedicated to the tasks of providing a truly business-grade email solution. Many ISP's will lump your Web site, FTP site, databases, and email services onto a single server -- often with hundreds, maybe thousands, of other domains. When a server goes down, it's usually one service on the server that has a problem that then drags all of the other services hosted on the server down too. And more often than not server problems start with a mis-behaving script on a Web site. So we keep Web sites and email services on separate servers and optimize our email servers to the task of delivering your messages as quickly and reliably as possible.

The results?   Dependable, speedy mail delivery to make certain your message is received loud and clear -- the first time.

Anti-Spam

All of us that rely on our Email for business communications know the pain of Unsolicity Commercial Emails -- more commonly known as Spam. The problem has evolved from simply being a genuine irritant to now nearing the level of crisis. When our clients first started complaining about Spam we took immediate action and installed anti-spam tools. It worked great! We were able to stop about 90% of the Spam going through our servers.

In less than a year the level of Spam reaching our users went back to where it was when they first reported the problem. Had the Spammers found a way around the filters? No. The anti-spam tools were still stopping 90% of the Spam. The Spammers simply worked up to sending 10 times as much Spam.

It's been back and forth like that since then. We stop more. They send more. We use new tools and they start using the same tools to learn how to defeat our tools. To make matters worse there are several countries around the world that either encourage commercial Spam farms or simply "look the other way".

Today our approach to fighting Spam goes something like this:

  1. Using blacklists maintained by Spamhaus we are currently refusing about 2/3 of all incoming mail messages to our Email servers. Stopping the message before it arrives at the server means less of our server's resources go to serving and fighting Spam and your legitimate messages come through more quickly.
  2. Next we use the powerful, open source anti-spam tool Spam Assassin to scan and "tag" every message that gets processed by our Email servers. Messages thought to be Spam will have their subject line changed so that the phrase "***** Spam *****" is added to the subject's beginning. You can then setup your Email software to filter your email based on Spam Assassin's tagging.
  3. After that we use the award-winning, open source anti-virus tool ClamAV to scan all messages for common viruses and other malicious Email based attacks.

We understand how important your Email is to you and your success. And we'll continue to adapt and tighten our Email security measures as we go forward from here.
